Faith is like trying to describe the sun to someone who has lived their whole life underground. Until they get to the surface themselves and have their eyes opened, the sun is obviously a fairy tale.
Where Christians get it wrong, however, is the belief that we open our own eyes, or are somehow more special or more “saved” than those who haven’t yet seen the sun. Truth is: Faith is nothing we can take credit for.
Then Jesus replied, “Happy are you, Simon son of Jonah, because no human has shown this to you. Rather my Father who is in heaven has shown you.”
There’s a difference between “making believers” and “making disciples.” Disciples are what you become after you believe. Believing, however, is between God and the non-believer.
Why doesn’t God make more believers? Why didn’t Jesus have 100,000 followers? Add it to life’s mysteries. But apparently God isn’t in a hurry. He has all the time in this world -and the next, to find every last sheep, even the ones who don’t believe the Shepherd exists.
